Beatersville Car & Bike Show 2014 is in the books of Hot Rod history.Scott,Shawn,Travis and the rest of their crew proved once again that Memorial Day Weekend is the place to be each year, not just for killer Hot Rods, great folks and bands, but vendors to.Shelby’s Speed & Kustom along with doing our Shelby’s Hot Rod Roundup Award wouldn’t miss it.The weather this year was great not to hot just right, move in and setup goes pretty easy its the end of the day and tear down that brings out the worst in people. One of our host clubs the Bourbon Trail Bombers for our Hot Rod Hullabaloo was trying to help us load and exit, but others full of drink for the day had other ideas…lets say impatience and beer induced attitude brings out the worst in folks.Bryan Sharp of the Bombers…I owe you a BIG Thanks and Sorry for your help directing us out,you took the worst of the blows (not hits, just a lot of attitude). Our pick this year for the Roundup “Bringing Awareness to Suicide Prevention” was Glenn Millers 1955 Chevy Gasser,a beautifully painted and built gasser. Now usually these cars are built typically like the Two Lane Blacktop 55 Chevy driven by James Taylor and Dennis Wilson….kind of crude, fast with race ready looks. Now Glenn’s 55 has the latter two,but crude no way-this Gasser has a killer custom paint job,a very detailed and chromed big block chevy with plenty of power and a sweet finished interior with the typical daisy mags and slicks.Glenn was cleaning his pride and joy, while enjoying a adult beverage from a fifth bottle, but took time to accept our award and listen while I shared our story along with the meaning of the Shelby’s Hot Rod Roundup.Beatersville has a killer Pin-Up contest with some very pretty ladies bidding for the Miss Beatersville title…one Pin-up took interest in Glenn’s 55 for a picture opportunity and it didn’t take long for Glenn’s interest to change to her….Congrats Glenn you have a beautiful 55 Chevy Gasser and we are proud to have you in the Roundup family.Memorial Day weekend in May each year has a lot of things going on to peek our interest the Indy 500 at the Brickyard and the Coca-Cola 600 in Charlotte, but I promise if you have yet to attend Beatersville in the Historic Highlands neighborhood of Louisville,Kentucky….turn your interest from all the speed and glamor of high banked racing to the River City and Beatersville for the day.God Bless guys and Enjoy each day as it comes.
