Pete & Jakes Hot Rod Shop
Everybody in hotrodding knows the story of Pete & Jakes Hot Rod Repair,the California Kid made for TV movie in 1974 an how that movie propelled two legendary Hot Rod builders into the Hot Rod Building & Repair business.Pete Chapouris , Jake Jacobs a slick little 34 Ford Coupe an TV movie would bring increased awareness to Traditional Hot Rodding an the lifestyle of all Hot Rod Hoodlum’s everywhere.
And I am also sure all of you know that Jerry Slover an the Slover Family purchased Pete & Jakes in 1986,also obtaining the California Kid as part of the transaction.
But for my Family Pete & Jakes an the Slovers mean so much more.
As a Hot Rodder an always a fan of the “Kid” & Jakes Coupe back in the late 1980’s I made a phone call to there shop…Jerry answered the phone an was more than happy to sell me my Pete & Jakes Hot Rod Shop Black Satin embroidered jacket…still have it an in perfect condition today.
Fast forward to 2012 and another phone call to Pete & Jakes…this time Jason Slover taking my call to purchase a new 32 Ford peremiter frame for our dream car…a 32 Ford 3 window Coupe loosely based on a beautiful 32 coupe built by Dave Lane of Fastlane Rod Shop.With our family now building an repairing cars out of our own shop Shelby’s Speed & Kustom we new that the build of a slick little 32 Coupe had to be done.But I don’t want to just talk Hot Rods…I mean the story had to be told so you could hear the rest an why the Slovers mean so much more to us.After we lost Shelby to Suicide an we started Shelby’s Hot Rod Roundup Bringing Awareness to Suicide Prevention I knew that starting his dream shop an the awareness program would need a kick in the tailpipe so needing to bring creditability to our Suicide Awareness Program I so boldly called Jason Slover again to talk about my new chassis but also to talk in detail more about the Roundup an how we would be attending local car shows along with National shows like the NSRA,Goodguy’s an others to give the Shelby’s Hot Rod Roundup award,Tshirt an information about Suicide Prevention to a lucky participant,in hopes of building partnerships with them an to go back to there communities an continue spreading an informing our message.Jason brought me to tears by saying…Mark what do you need me to do,I an my Family are here for you.This years Street Rod Nationals Pete & Jakes displayed our award an info board in there booth an now at there shop…what can I say Thanks my Brother you are the Best!!!
